Sacred Heart Catholic School is a preschool through grade 12 coeducational Catholic day school, located in Muenster, Texas, a rural farming community of 1,556. Six miles south of the Texas-Oklahoma border, the city of Muenster is situated on US 82, 14 miles west of I-35 and 75 miles east of Wichita Falls. About an hour and ten minutes from the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, Muenster is close enough for convenient access, but far enough away to avoid urban crime, pollution, heavy traffic, and exorbitant real estate prices. Most residents are descendents of a small group of German settlers who founded the community in 1889. People in the area know their neighbors and are attuned to the traditional values of hard work, honesty, and respect.
Having a Catholic church and school were top priorities of Muenster’s founders and settlers. Sacred Heart Catholic School started in April of 1890, less than six months after the community of Muenster was established. The Olivetan Benedictine Sisters came to teach in 1895, and they have continued to serve the children of Sacred Heart Catholic School for more than one hundred years. Through the years, they have been joined by highly expert, enthusiastic, and dedicated lay teachers.
